Critical friends and information security

You know someone is a good friend if they tell you that you have a smudge on your face, or something in your teeth—ideally before you go into that Zoom meeting.

You know someone is a really good friend if they are able to tell you when you are making a mistake or putting yourself in harm’s way.

And a critical friend? Often people see the word ‘critical’ and think ‘negativity’. But a critical friend is someone who will ask difficult questions and see things from a different perspective. They work to understand the context of the situation, and the goals you are working towards, and advocate for your success in that situation.

That’s why an information security consultancy can act as a critical friend to your business. We can bring:

  • a different perspective. Consultants are not embedded in your organisation, so can bring fresh eyes and may be able to see your current issue in a different way
  • specialist expertise. You are the expert in your business, but a consultant will have seen other organisations with similar problems
  • additional resource. Sometimes you just need someone to pick up those tasks that you can’t get round to because business gets in the way.

The questions we ask might not always be easy to answer, but the aim is to understand your business, your goals and current issues, and to gather enough information to provide appropriate help and guidance.
