Cyber protect your business for free: Part 2

Last week we talked about organisations that provide cyber security guidance, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses.

This week, we’re listing a few sites online where you can find free cyber security training for you and your staff.

Cyber security training

It’s important that you and your staff are aware of potential cyber security risks, and understand how to protect your business online. Of course, security awareness training is relevant to keeping your employees safe online in their personal lives too.

These organisations (and many others) provide free training online:

  1. The Centre for Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) helps to protect UK national security, reducing the vulnerability of the UK to threats such as terrorism, espionage and sabotage. As you can imagine, if our national infrastructure suffered a cyber attack, this could be a problem for most of us, if not all of us. Their awareness videos are excellent, and lots of resources for security awareness campaigns can be found here: Security Campaigns | CPNI
  2. As you’d expect, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) offers free training for your people and Exercise in a Box, which is an online tool to help you find out how resilient your organisation is to cyber attack, and gives you a chance to practice before it happens. We pointed you to the NCSC website last week too, as their cyber security guidance is very useful (and free).
  3. Barclays provides training in cyber security as part of their Digital Wings programme: Cyber security for business | Digital Wings. There’s a lot of other free training in digital skills on their site too, so do have a look at everything. There might be something else there that would help you and your business.
  4. And the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) offers training material that they use internally for their own staff, for you to reuse for your organisation. There are videos to watch, but also posters for you to print and display as reminders for your staff.
